Five kinds of event, one crew

BARC runs large scale events for e-waste, mattresses and tires, for hotel clean-outs, and for furniture and other bulk items. Each one is a single day or a set stretch of days where material that would otherwise trickle into the landfill gets collected in one place and moved out in one go.

An e-waste event covers anything with a battery or a cord. A tire event is exactly what it sounds like. A hotel clean-out is the event for a property that has a lot of furniture and bedding to clear out at once. Bulk furniture events are drop-offs for businesses and organizations.

Who books one, and what BARC takes off your plate

Businesses, organizations and counties book large scale events with BARC. A company clearing out a warehouse and a county running a free e-waste day for residents are the same problem at different sizes, and the answer is the same: We handle the logistics.

You pick the date and the site, tell your people where to bring things, and BARC plans the rest of the day with you. Rates for labor, freight and containers come straight from the 2026-27 sheet, and anything outside it gets priced for the job. Call (231) 632-2272 and ask for an event quote.

The fleet behind it, and Leelanau County as the example

BARC started in 2008 with one man, one truck. Today the fleet includes eight trucks and dozens of trailers, and for larger projects, 4 semi trucks and 15 semi-trailers. That is the equipment behind an event that has to move a lot of material out in one go.

The clearest example is Leelanau County, where BARC runs the electronic waste days. They are free to Leelanau residents, paid for by the county's PA-69 tax, and registration is required. The 2026 fall series stopped at Glen Lake School, Suttons Bay, Peshawbestown and Elmwood Township.

Pick the stream, then the date

Smaller jobs do not need an event. A single mattress or one old fridge goes through Mattress Recycling or Refrigerator Recycling. A wedding or a festival belongs with Zero Waste Events.
