Event stream, bins hauled to you

Zero Waste Events, from a backyard grad party to a festival lawn

BARC brings the bins, hauls the material and sorts it, so the people running the event can run the event. Call (231) 632-2272 with your date.

Who books a zero waste event

Individuals, companies and organizations, at any size. Weddings and family reunions book BARC, and so do backyard grad parties. So do the big ones: BARC works huge festivals like the Traverse City Film Fest, or the Bay Shore Marathon, where the waste has to land in the right stream the same night.

The common thread is that nobody on the host's side wants to be the person standing at the bins at midnight. BARC takes that job so a planner or a caterer doesn't have to.

How it works: event bins, hauling and sorting

Three parts, priced separately on the 2026-27 sheet. Special event bins for zero waste events are $40. If you want BARC to drop off and pick up the bins and the material, one way within 35 miles, that is $100. Labor is $75 an hour when you want BARC people working the stations.

At a BARC event the streams are split at the bin: compost in one bin, bottles and cans in another. The photo on this page shows that setup on a festival lawn in the evening, with the stage lights on behind it.

Pick your date, tell us the headcount and whether there is food, and BARC will say what bins and how many people the day needs. For the biggest weekends, with several sites or several days, see Large Scale Recycling.

What caterers and planners say about the clean-up

The testimonials below come from people who run the food, the flowers and the schedule at weddings and events around Traverse City. They keep saying the same thing: BARC handles the hauling and sorting, and everyone else gets to do their own job.

Cammie Buehler of Epicure Catering and Cherry Basket Farm, Alicia Fritz of A Day in May Event Planning and Design and Kendall Rose of The Revel Rose are quoted in full on this page, along with an anonymous caterer.

Caterers and planners, in their words

“Andy is like a godsend; our whole team gets along with him. It's like gold to have him dove tail immediately with our team. We focus our time on the buildup to an event, so it's great to have someone dedicated to the downslope of the event. Having BARC helping at the end of the event brings a lot of peace of mind to us as caterers.”
Cammie Buehler, Epicure Catering and Cherry Basket Farm
“Andy has an infectious personality and every member of team is passionate about their work. It is rare to see someone so dedicated to their ethos and culture. He cares so genuinely about things that most people turn a head to. The venues we work in are always left in better condition than we found them because BARC is involved. They are wonderful stewards of customer service”
Alicia Fritz, A Day in May Event Planning and Design
“I cannot emphasize enough how smoothly the waste management went with BARC. Every wedding I've done that didn't have BARC, no one knew whose responsibility hauling and sorting the waste was. Having BARC at your wedding is a no-brainer.”
Kendall Rose, The Revel Rose
“BARC is a great partner for a catering team. The catering team gets to focus on serving amazing food and taking care of guests. BARC handles the clean-up.”
