Bulk bins + plans

Recycling for Business

Service plans and bulk bins: general recycling, cardboard, electronics, appliances, mattresses and compostable serviceware.

A service plan built around your dumpster, not ours

Every business throws away a different mix, so BARC writes each service plan around what your building actually produces. A restaurant, a motel, a machine shop and a property manager all end up with different bins and different pickup days.

Tell the Traverse City office what moves through your loading dock and the plan follows from there. The bin menu runs from a general recycling bin to bulk cardboard, bulk electronics, bulk appliances, bulk mattresses, composting and compostable serviceware.

Service reaches Grand Traverse, Antrim, Kalkaska, Leelanau, Benzie and Manistee counties. Call (231) 632-2272 and describe the waste stream before you pick a bin, because the right bin is usually one step smaller or one step more specific than the first guess.

Industrial and large volume, priced by the job

Warehouse clean-outs, pallet yards and plant shutdowns do not fit a standard plan, so industrial and large-volume work is quoted by special pricing. BARC sends labor, trucks and containers, and the sheet below shows the building blocks: labor at $75 an hour, freight at $4 a mile with a box truck or semi, gaylord boxes, steel drums and pallets.

Prices differ by job and by the skills the work needs. The Kaleva facility processes and ships out electronic waste, mattress materials and industrial recycling, and the fleet includes 4 semi trucks and 15 semi-trailers for larger projects.

If your project is a one-day event rather than ongoing service, the large scale recycling events page covers hotel clean-outs, e-waste events and county programs.

Business composting waitlist and compostable serviceware

Business composting is at capacity for new customers, and a waitlist is open. Call (231) 632-2272 to be added, and start the rest of your recycling plan now so only the compost stream is waiting.

Compostable serviceware is a separate line and it is available now. BARC supplies affordable compostable products to local businesses, ordered by emailing Barb Tholin at sales@mybarc.org or calling 231-632-2272.
